My Personal Commitment.
Before We've Even Started. I need to hear from each and every one of you to understand what you need. I want to turn those needs into 10 Peninsula Promises that will drive each and every decision in Parliament. I will fight for those needs and promises and only agree with any parliamentarian or policy maker in Spring Street when they agree to fully fund one of OUR Peninsula Promises. And that's our first Peninsula Promise. From me to you. I, Adrian Maher, commit that if elected as the Independent Member for Mornington, I will not provide confidence, supply, or support for any legislation to any government - Labor, Liberal, or otherwise - unless and until that government commits to fully funding one of our Peninsula Promises. That's it. That's the deal. No backroom compromises. No "we'll look into it." No vague commitments buried in a ministerial press release. Full funding. One Promise. Every time. This means that from the moment I walk into Spring Street as your representative, the Peninsula has genuine leverage - real, structural, political power - for the very first time. Every vote I cast becomes a negotiation on your behalf. Every budget, every bill, every motion of confidence - all of it becomes an opportunity to extract a concrete, funded commitment for this community. That is not how politics is usually done. That's exactly the point. Here's something the major parties don't want you to think about. The Australian Constitution - our founding document, the birth certificate of this nation - doesn't mention political parties once. Not once. The Constitution says MPs are chosen by the people, to serve the people. That's it. The entire party machine - the whips telling MPs how to vote, the donors funding the campaigns, the factions doing backroom deals - all of it is built on top of a document that was never designed to accommodate any of it. The founders of this nation imagined representatives who answered to their communities. They could not have imagined a system where an MP sits in parliament and votes against the wishes of the people who elected them because a party official tells them to. I am simply doing what the Constitution always intended. I am your representative. I answer to you. Full stop."
